Why he might be annoying:

    His nickname was 'Murph.'
    He didn't receive a lot of recognition for his accolades during his playing career.
    He began his coaching career as a player-coach replacement on the 1972-73 Sixers team that set the NBA futility record for most losses in an 82 game season.
    He was fired mid-season in three of his head coaching stops.
    His tenure in Chicago drew criticism from his former star player Reggie Theus, who felt he sabotaged his career when he opted to bench him during the 1983-84 season.
    Theus held a grudge over how he handled him and went as far as calling him an asshole in a 2020 interview.
    He posted a record of 6-21 in 27 career playoff games as a head coach.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a star player for the Bullets franchise during their years in Baltimore.
    He guided the Nets to two ABA championships in three years (1974, 1976).
    He was considered a players coach, who encouraged creativity amongst his players.
    He was Michael Jordan's first coach with the Bulls.
    Jordan went as far as considering him to be his favorite coach he played for.
    He helped set the foundation for the Heat's success following the hiring of his successor, Pat Riley.
