Football Coach
Many football pundits cite his success in San Francisco was a result of inheriting Bill Walsh's teams.
He had a penchant for signing veterans past their prime.
He was described as being a control freak.
His tenure in Carolina was considered a major disappointment.
He is the first coach in NFL history to lose 15 consecutive games in a season (2001).
During his stint as the 49ers defensive co-ordinator, he was viewed as the mastermind of the team's dominating defense of the 1980's.
While many pundits question his success, he guided the 49ers to a Super Bowl with his own roster of players (1994).
Prior to his stint with the Panthers, he had the highest winning percentage among NFL coaches.
He mentored future head coaches Mike Shanahan, Ray Rhodes, Pete Carroll and Jeff Fisher.
    He coached his hometown team.
