The Resume

    (December 23, 1893-March 9, 1944)
Born in Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada
Birth name was Arthur Roy Brown
Pilot in the Royal Navy Air Service and Royal Air Force during World War I
    Credited with ten aerial victories
Was credited with shooting down the Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen

Why he might be annoying:

Shortly after his combat with the Red Baron, he was hospitalized with nervous exhaustion (and influenza).
He ran unsuccessfully for the Ontario legislature (1943).
Most modern military historians believe the Red Baron was actually shot down by ground-based Australian anti-aircraft gunners.

Why he might not be annoying:

He survived a pair of airplane crashes during WWI, one during training and one as a trainer.
As a flight commander, he never lost a pilot in his unit.
He had already earned the Distinguished Service Cross six months before his encounter with the Red Baron.
In his initial combat report, he described his dogfight with the Red Baron as 'inconclusive'; it was his commanding officer who credited him with the kill.
After WWI, he founded a small airline and edited the journal 'Canadian Aviation.'
