    (1962-1969)
    Born in Union City, Indiana
    Rick Derringer, guitar and vocals
    Randy Z., drums
    Randy Jo Hobbs, bass guitar
    Bobby Peterson, keyboards
Rick Derringer and Randy Z are brothers (with the original last name Zehringer)
Recorded the singles ‘Hang On Sloopy’ (1965), ‘Fever’ (1965) and ‘Come On, Let’s Go’ (1966)

Why they might be annoying:

They were called Rick and the Raiders but changed their name to avoid potential confusion with Paul Revere and the Raiders.
For their biggest hit, ‘Hang On Sloopy,’ Derringer sang to a backing track pre-recorded by the members of the Strangeloves.
’Hang On Sloopy’ is in a dead heat with ‘Mony, Mony’ by Tommy James and the Shondells for the distinction of ‘60s love song with the goofiest girl’s name in the title.’

Why they might not be annoying:

They took the name ‘McCoys’ from an instrumental song by the Ventures.
The band members were in high school when ‘Hang On Sloopy’ hit #1 on the Billboard singles chart.
After the group broke up, Rick Derringer, Randy Z and Randy Jo Hobbs joined Johnny Winter’s band.
’Hang On Sloopy’ was named the official rock song of the state of Ohio (1985).
