U.S. Governor

The Resume

    (September 13, 1959- )
    Born in Nassawadox, Virginia
    Ralph Shearer Northam
    Governor of Virginia (2018 - )
    Lieutenant Governor of Virginia (2014 - 2018)
    U.S. Army Medical Corps officer (1984 - 92)
    Democrat

Why he might be annoying:

He admitted that his Military Academy nickname was 'coon man.'
He ran several ads insinuating that his Gubernatorial opponent Ed Gillespie was a racist.
He was criticized for making comments defending third-term abortion which many pro-life activists claimed was tantamount to endorsing infanticide ('If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother').
A day after making the statement, photos surfaced of him posing in blackface next to a friend in a Ku Klux Klan costume for his medical school yearbook.
He initially confirmed that he had posed for the photo and apologized, but the next day tried to deny that he was either man in the photo (you'd have to be Frozone to take in a snow job that heavy...)
He made the claims in a bizarre press conference in which he also admitted to 'darkening' his face with shoe polish as part of a Michael Jackson costume.
He dismissed calls for him to step down from the office of Governor, despite mounting pressure fromJoe Biden, Hillary Clinton, the NAACP, and Nancy Pelosi (not to mention the entire virtual 2020 Presidential field).

Why he might not be annoying:

He has described himself as 'conservative on fiscal issues and liberal on social issues.'
He is an outspoken proponent of the public education system over charter schools.
He treated wounded U.S. soldiers at Germany’s Landstuhl Regional Medical Center during the Persian Gulf War.
He left the Army with the rank of Major, and moved into the field of pediatrics and neurology.
He beat a two-term Republican when he ran for the Virginia 6th Senate district seat.
He and then-Governor Terry McAuliffe drew praise as governor for their handling of the Charlottesville riots following the 'Unite the Right' rally.
A majority of his cabinet appointees are women, which is a first for a Virginia governor.
During a time of unprecedented partisan division, he managed to unite the ideological Left and Right in their universal condemnation and revulsion towards him (albeit for strikingly different reasons).
