Why he might be annoying:

    Early in his Test career, the media mockingly dubbed him ‘Iron Gloves’ for his many missed catches.
    He sported a walrus mustache in his playing days.
    He drank 43 beers on a flight to England (1977).
    He was disappointed at never being named captain of the Australian team.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was married to Roslyn Marsh for 53 years.
    He wrote the Australian cricket team’s victory song, ‘Under the Southern Cross I Stand.’
    He gained a reputation for putting the team first when he did not complain when captain Bill Lawry declared an end of innings with Marsh eight runs short of a century in the Fifth Test of the 1970-71 Ashes.
    He was the first Australian wicketkeeper to score a Test century against England (110 in 1977).
    He and Western Australia teammate Dennis Lillee formed one of the all-time most successful bowler-wicketkeeper partnerships.
