The Resume

    (January 15, 1915-April 8, 2022)
    Born in Vienna, Austria
    Birth name was Carmen Koppel
    Secretary for Oskar Schindler
After World War II, moved to Tangier, Morocco (1946), New York City (1957), and Herzliya, Israel (2007)

Why she might be annoying:

She never mastered touch typing, instead using the two-finger ‘hunt and peck’ method.
She said about the movie ‘Schindler’s List,’ ‘I was invited to the New York premiere, but I had to walk out before the screening. It was too hard for me.’
She said about the actual list, ‘I didn’t know it was such an important thing.’

Why she might not be annoying:

After the Nazi invasion of Poland, she and her husband sent their son to the less-murderous country of Hungary. (The son survived the war.)
Her first husband was shot and killed trying to escape the Krakow ghetto.
She was chosen as Schindler’s secretary based on her knowledge of shorthand and fluency in German.
She typed up the lists of Jewish workers to be saved from the concentration camps by working in Schindler’s factory.
She was part of a train of Schindlerjuden that was sent to Auschwitz for two weeks before Schindler was able to get them transferred to his factory’s labor camp.
She described the two weeks in Auschwitz as ‘straight out of Dante’s Inferno.’
She learned Hebrew in her 90s to better assimilate in Israel.
