His name was William Williams.
His poems are often very short and simple.
One poem, in its entirety, reads: 'so much depends/upon/a red wheel/barrow/glazed with rain/water/beside the white/chickens.'
His poetry has often been ridiculed and parodied.
He pissed off big-shot poets like T. S. Eliot by using everyday language in his writings.
He would give unsolicited medical advice to his friends.

He was a full-time doctor.
He continued his medical practice even after becoming a famous poet.
His poems were experimental and influential.
He didn't think American writers should simply imitate European ones.
He thought a lot of literary people were snobs and posers.
He had the sense to use his middle name and not just go by William Williams.
