The Resume

    (July 16, 1796-February 22, 1875)
    Born in Paris, France
    Full name was Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot
    Landscape and portrait painter
Works include 'The Bridge at Narni' (1826), 'View of the Forest of Fontainebleau' (1830) 'Venice, La Piazetta' (1835), 'The Baptism of Christ' (1847), 'Macbeth and the Witches' (1859), 'Souvenir de Mortefontaine' (1864), 'VIlle d'Array' (1867), 'Woman with a Pearl' (1870) and 'Lady in Blue' (1874)

Why he might be annoying:

Until his paintings began selling relatively late in his career, he lived off an allowance from his parents.
When he was in his 50s, a contemporary noted, 'He surrenders all his freedom to his mother.... He has to beg her repeatedly to get permission to go out for dinner every other Friday.'
His paintings were easily and widely forged, leading to the quip, 'Corot painted three thousand canvases, ten thousand of which have been sold in America.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Claude Monet said that when it came to landscapes, 'There is only one master here -- Corot. We are nothing compared to him, nothing.'
He was named an officer of the Legion of Honor (1867).
After he gained financial success, he was generous to fellow artists, including buying a house for Honore Daumier and donating 10,000 francs to Jean-Francois Millet's widow.
