Why he might be annoying:

His middle name is Grayling.
He went to the University of Illinois to study acting, switched to an art major, then dropped out to pursue singing, stunning his parents.
His song 'Same Old Lang Syne' was based on a real event, but he doesn't remember if it was 1975 or 1976 (must have been the beers).
He missed a show at Dodger Stadium with The Eagles and Elton John due to bad tonsils.
He talked with Don Henley about joining The Eagles, but both realized it wouldn't be a good fit (the position went to Joe Walsh).
He used French horns in his songs, ad nauseam.
He was in (unofficial) competition with Air Supply as to who could create the most coma-inducing music of the early 1980s.
He married 3 times, twice divorced.
After promising he wouldn't make the ultimate 'divorce album' after his first marriage crumbled, he did exactly that, recording 'Exiles (1987).' It tanked.

He was a huge fan of The Beatles and decided to become a singer/songwriter while lip-syncing to their music (1963).
He stated his vocal style is based on the voice of George Harrison.
He toured in the early '70s with Van Morrison.
His father was a bandleader and inspiration for his song 'Leader of the Band,' which was released a year before he passed away in 1982.
Four of his songs have made it into Billboard's Top 10 singles charts.
He was an expert downhill skier and ocean sailor.
