Birth name is José Moreno Hernández

Served as Chief of the Materials and Processes branch of Johnson Space Center (2001-2004)
Served on the crew of Space Shuttle mission STS-128 (2004-2011)

Why he might be annoying:

He was rejected by NASA a total of 11 times.
He brought tortillas with him on the 14-day orbit.
President Obama convinced him to try and pull a John Glenn and run for political office.
He ran against Rep. Jeff Denham for a Congressional seat for a newly redrawn California district which neither of them resided in.
As such, most of his campaign funds and donations came from outside of his district, usually from left-wing PACS and labor unions.
In an overwhelmingly positive election year for Democrats, he lost his Congressional race 47% to 52%, despite already being a glorified celebrity in a district with a safe Hispanic majority.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is very humble.
He grew up in a poor family of migrant workers.
He spoke poor English as a student, and thus was endeared to mathematics because it was the same in every country.
He became the first person to use the Spanish language in space while tweeting while in orbit.
He developed the first full-field digital mammography imaging system which helps early detection of breast cancer.
He lived and worked underwater for 11 days while working as an aquanaut during the NEEMO 12 mission aboard the Aquarius underwater laboratory (2007).
California Republicans filed suit to prevent him from listing 'Astronaut' as an occupation during his Congressional run, but were overruled by district courts.
He received the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award for Outstanding Technical Contribution (1995).
He won the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for Outstanding Engineer Award (2001).
He received the Upward Bound National TRIO Achiever Award (2001).
He won two consecutive NASA Service Awards (2002-2003).
