The Resume

    (October 13, 1967- )
    Born in Limonar, Cuba
    High jumper
Won an Olympic gold medal at the Barcelona games (1992) and silver at the Sydney games (2000)
    Personal best of 2.45 meters (8 feet 1/4 inch) (July 27, 1993)

Why he might be annoying:

He was stripped of the gold medal he won at the Pan-American Games after testing positive for cocaine (August 4, 1999).
Although the penalty was a two year suspension, the IAAF (International Association of Athletic Federations) cut the suspension in half, allowing him to compete at the Sydney Olympics.
He tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid (June, 2001).
He then announced his retirement, which he claimed was due to an injured Achilles tendon and not because he was facing a potential lifetime ban for a second failed drug test.

Why he might not be annoying:

He missed two potential chances to earn Olympic gold medals when Cuba boycotted the 1984 and 1988 games.
He set the world high jump record (September 8, 1988) and has since held it for over 25 years (through mid-2014).
He was the first (and through mid-2014 only) high jumper to clear 8 feet.
