Why he might be annoying:

His nickname was ‘Gorgeous George.’
He was mostly forgotten until his record for hits in a season was in jeopardy (2004).
During Ichiro’s chase and eventual overtaking of Sisler’s hits record, many Chris Berman-wannabe sportscasters kept referring to him as George ‘We Goin' To’ Sisler.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is considered one of the best fielding first basemen ever and the greatest player in St. Louis Browns history.
He was left-handed.
He was the last baseball player to hit .420.
He never drank or used tobacco.
Like Babe Ruth, he was a pitcher who eventually gave it up because his hitting was too good to be utilized once every four days.
Ty Cobb, who rarely gives a compliment, called him, ‘the nearest thing to a perfect ballplayer.’
He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.
He had his 257 hits record in a 154-game season, while Ichiro broke the record in 160 games (where’s the Roger Maris /asterisk people now?).
A statue of him is located outside Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals.
