Why he might be annoying:

He was usually typecast as villains in his Hollywood films.
His last TV appearance, in an episode of All in the Family, aired a week after his death.
His ghost allegedly haunts the sidewalk in front of the footprints and handprints at Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

Why he might not be annoying:

He lost the vision in one eye as the result of an accident while filming a fight scene with John Wayne in ‘Reap the Wild Wind.’
He was blacklisted in the 50s for his political beliefs.
He fared better than most blacklistees, since Actors’ Equity refused to accept his banning, thus letting him continue to act on the stage.
He was beaten to death by burglars robbing his Hollywood apartment.
