Why he might be annoying:

This lovely bit of a 1973 radio interview: ‘When I got to Chicago, they simply said, well, what are you? Are you an actor or are you an announcer? You can’t be both.’
His heavyset underworld-worthy frame – which often got him cast as an Asiatic antagonist – belied a clear baritone voice.
He regarded his role on The Millionaire as his career-killer just as much as more than one casting agent did (as in, the audience expecting him to give away a cheque like that).
His final motion picture (‘Hell Squad’) was released nearly 11 months after his fatal heart attack.

Why he might not be annoying:

He scored a radio gig, for which he was initially rejected, on the strength of a sketch he’d written — voicing all of the ethnically diverse characters therein.
Before he left for the big time, Variety Magazine would dub him Chicago’s ‘one-man radio industry.’
He recorded several Dr. Seuss stories, which won him a Grammy for three years running.
He is the one to beat for the earliest documented recording of the entire Holy Bible (as in, Old and New Testaments).
His one marriage – in his 40s, to a woman 25 years younger – bore him two children.
