The Resume

    (March 16, 1789-July 6, 1854)
    Born in Erlangen, Germany
Namesake of the ohm (Ω), a unit of electrical resistance
Discovered Ohm's law, which states that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across them (I=V/R), and Ohm's acoustic law, which states that a musical sound is perceived by the ear as a set of a number of constituent pure harmonic tones
Worked as a tutor at Neuchâtel,Switzerland (March 1809-1811)
Taught at a Jesuit gymnasium in Cologne (<28009>September<28009> 11, 1817-1828)
Writings include 'Guidelines for an Appropriate Treatment of Geometry in Higher Education at Preparatory Institutes' (1817), 'The Galvanic Circuit Investigated Mathematically' (1827), 'Elements of Analytic Geometry Concerning the Skew Coordinate System' (1849), 'Molecular Physics' (1849), and 'Fundamentals of Physics: Compendium of Lectures' (1853-1854)
    Awarded Copley Medal (1841)
Became a foreign member of the Royal Society (1842)
Died from an apoplectic attack in Munich

Why he might be annoying:

He wasted most of his time dancing, ice skating, and playing billiards at the University of Erlangen, resulting in his relocation to Switzerland by his father.
He presented his law in a rambling way, which made him a target of ridicule.
As a result, his achievements weren't accepted until he became director of the Polytechnic School of Nuremberg. (1833)
After resigning from the Jesuit gymnasium in Cologne, he was without permanent employment for five years.
Ohm's acoustic law has been proven to be not quite true.

Why he might not be annoying:

His mother died when he was ten.
Four of his siblings didn't survive to adulthood.
He eventually cleaned up his act and received a doctorate at the University of Erlangen. (October 25, 1811)
His law is a crucial part of understanding the physics of electricity, such as why materials are electrical conductors, semiconductors, or insulators.
He signed some of his family letters with the expression 'Commended to God'.
