Why they might be annoying:

Donelly said she chose Belly for the band's name because the word was 'both pretty and ugly.'
Donelly on the band's break-up: 'The force that pulled this group together and made it good -- the differences in our personalities -- was ultimately a centrifugal force and we flew apart.'
While they were disbanded, a Canadian rapper also adopted the name Belly. (Donelly: 'Basically, neither of us was aware of the other until it was too late and we both had legal claim to it.')

Why they might not be annoying:

Donelly had previously been in Throwing Muses and the Breeders.
Their debut album earned them Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Performance.
Similarly, they were nominated for MTV Video Music Awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Video.
They jointly headlined a tour with Radiohead (1993).
They raised the money to record 'Dove' through crowdfunding.
