The Resume

    (February 18, 1894-January 23, 1980)
    Born in Los Angeles, California
Designer of such buildings as Beverly Hills Sax Fifth Avenue (1939), Beverly Hills Hotel (1940s) and Los Angeles County Courthouse
    Recipient, Springarn Medal (1953)

Why he might be annoying:

    His mustache was oddly tiny.
he was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
    That middle name.

Why he might not be annoying:

He drew plans upside down so his white clients, some of whom may not have been comfortable in close proximity to a black man, would not have to sit next to him.
His son died just a few hours after birth in 1925.
He built homes for Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Frank Sinatra and Tyrone Power.
Because of segregation covenants, barring blacks from buying parcels of land, he observed, 'I designed the most beautiful home for a client today, sometimes I dream of living in this home, I could afford such a home but this evening leaving my office, I returned to my small inexpensive home in an unrestricted undesirable section of Los Angeles because I am a Negro.'
