Why he might be annoying:

His second wife, Marie Isabella Smyth, was the daughter of his cousin.
Even though his voyage gave rise to the career of Charles Darwin, who would become a major enemy of Creationist doctrine, he was a devout Christian.
He begged Darwin to recant his theory of evolution, but was unsuccessful.
He and Darwin frequently argued over religion, and Darwin was once banned from the dinner table for three days.
He initially did not want Darwin to accompany him on the voyage because he did not like Darwin's nose, believing that it showed a 'lack of character.'

He excelled at academics, fencing, dancing and drawing.
He graduated from the Naval College with honors.
He was the first person ever to ace the Navy's Lieutenant exam.
His voyages allowed exploration of the far reaches of South America, to Tierra del Fuego and the Magellan Straits at the southern-most tip of the continent.
The 'Beagle Channel' in Patagonia is named after his voyage.
He is acknowledged as the father of modern weather forecasting and pioneered the use of barometric pressure to predict storms.
He was a member of the Royal Society.
He was dismissed from his position as New Zealand's governor because he supported the land claims of the native Maori people.
He took his own life due to stress and depression brought on by his tireless work.
