    She was sent to be educated by Augustinian nuns, but only lasted a year.
    She became a Carmelite nun against her father’s wishes.

    She was one of the major figures in the Catholic Church’s Counter-Reformation.
    She was canonized in 1622.
    She was the first woman to be named a Doctor of the Church.
    She is the patron saint of Spain.
