Why he might be annoying:

His mother thought he had the potential to be a great artist and decided he would receive the best education possible to become 'enlightened.'
He still lived with his mother in his mid-30s.
He competed with John Maynard Keynes for the pick of the crop of incoming freshmen at Cambridge.
Despite being gay, he proposed marriage to Virginia Woolf.
Virginia's sister Vanessa wrote, 'I should like Lytton as a brother-in-law better than anyone I know, but the only way I can perceive of bringing that to pass would be if were to fall in love with [their brother] Adrian.'
After Virginia called off the engagement, he told friends 'I was in terror lest she kiss me.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He revolutionized biography by refusing to idealize his subjects.
He exposed Victorian hypocrisy.
When he applied for conscientious objector status during World War I, a military examiner tried to disconcert him by asking, 'What would you do if you saw a German soldier trying to rape your sister?' After a brief pause, he replied, 'I should try to come between them.' (He ended up receiving a deferment on medical grounds instead.)
His last words were, 'If this is dying, I don't think much of it.'
