Commentator

The Resume

    (January 16, 1930- )
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
    Editor-in-chief of 'Commentary' (1960-95)
Wrote the books 'Making It' (1967), 'Breaking Ranks: A Political Memoir' (1979), 'The New Defenders of Capitalism' (1981), 'My Love Affair with America: The Cautionary Tale of a Cheerful Conservative' (2000), 'World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofacism' (2007), and 'Why Are Jews Liberal?' (2009)
    Self-described 'paleo-neo-conservative'
Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2004)
    Father of John Podhoretz

Why he might be annoying:

He was a liberal until the rest of the New York Jewish liberal intelligentsia reacted negatively to 'Making It.'
He complained about Ronald Reagan not taking a hard enough line against the Soviet Union.
He wrote, 'There is no doubt that Saddam already possesses large stores of chemical and biological weapons may be on the precipice of nuclear power.' (2002)
He advocates going to war with Iran.
He said that Donald Trump was 'chosen by God to save us from the evil on the Left.' (So far, no explanation from Podhoretz as to why God abandoned his chosen one after a single term.)

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is fluent in Yiddish.
He skipped two grades and won a full scholarship to Columbia at age 16.
He and author Midge Decter have been married for over sixty years.
He was foreign policy advisor to Rudy Giuliani's short-lived presidential campaign (2008).
