The Resume

    (circa 1967-circa 1976)
    Born in Glasgow, United Kingdom
Scottish pop group of the late sixties to mid-seventies
Known for bight cheery melodies combined with offbeat lyrics, goofy sixties/seventies fashions and lead singer Sally Carr's legs
    Lead singer, Sally Carr
    Guitarist, Ian McCredie
    Bass, Eric McCredie (Ian's brother)
    Drummer, Ken Andrews
    Guitar (post 1974), Neil Henderson
Albums included; Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, Acceleration, Drive On, Music Music, You Pays Yer Money and You Takes Yer Chance, and The Best of Middle of the Road
Singles included; Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum, Soley Soley, Sacramento, and Yellow Boomerang
AKA Part 4 and Los Caracas

Why they might be annoying:

Those seventies fashions were made even worse by the guys (and sometimes Sally Carr) usually dressing in identical or similar outfits to perform in live.
Despite having the greatest set of legs in the history of pop music, lead singer, Sally Carr unfortunately could not dance or even move with the beat -- and even more unfortunately kept trying to.
They combined light peppy instrumentals with some very strange lyrics.
'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' was about a woman's family disappearing after her mother sang the words 'chirpy chirpy cheep cheep.'
'Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum' was about a farmer, living in a cave and playing bagpipes while planning an attack on a rival clan, and in the exact middle of the song the singer repeats the syllable 'dum' thirty times.
Nobody knows what the hell 'Soley, Soley' is about.
Although the McCredie brothers are the only original members left and haven't released an album since the mid-seventies, they still continue to tour as Middle of the Road.
They played Spanish pop music and toured South America as Las Caracas.
They released a greatest hits album after having only recorded two albums. Although in all fairness, all their hit singles were on their first two albums.
They are almost completely forgotten today and are rarely played even on oldies stations.

Why they might not be annoying:

    Sally Carr's legs!
    They are from Scotland.
They clearly inspired the music of ABBA.
    They sold five million records!
They didn't (at least publicly) have the lame infighting and petty jealousies that mark the history of other rock groups.
At least publicly, they stayed out of trouble and were known for their music and not for making fools out of themselves.
They were rightly proud of their Scottish heritage.
The awesomeness of Sally Carr's legs (among other parts, see picture) cannot be over-emphasized.
