    Drafted third overall by the Buffalo Braves in the 1973 NBA Draft
    Point guard for the Buffalo Braves (1973-77), Los Angeles Lakers (1977-78) and the Boston Celtics (1978)
    NBA Rookie of the Year (1974)
    College Basketball Hall of Fame inductee (2019)

Why he might be annoying:

    He suffered a serious knee injury which ended his career after five years.
    He failed to replicate the same degree of success he had in his rookie season.
    He went by the nickname 'Ernie D.'
    His tenure with the Lakers lasted only 25 games.
    He did not formally announce his retirement from the NBA until 1981, despite the fact his final game was played four years earlier.

    He led the NBA in free throw percentage and assists per game.
    He set an NBA rookie record for assists recorded in a single game.
    He was one of the first athletes to endorse the Spalding brand of basketballs.
