The Resume

Why Golden Palace might be annoying:

Its premise reads like fan fiction.
It was basically the eighth season of Golden Girls minus Bea Arthur - dooming it from the start (that's like The Beatles getting back together minus John Lennon!)
It had the same theme song but with a Calypso twist to it.
It made several unorthodox decisions with the original show's recurring characters (having Miles cheat on Rose and marry another woman at the hotel, having Stan fake his death to avoid jail time for tax evasion, etc.).
It had a Cousin Oliver in the form of a foster kid (literally named Oliver), who proved such a Scrappy that he was put on a bus and written off the show mid-season.
One episode involved Chuy mistakenly believing he killed a food critic with rat poison, with the gang spending the rest of the episode trying to sneak the corpse out of the hotel (way to rip off Nine to Five!)
Estelle Getty was in the early stages of dementia during filming and had difficulty delivering her lines, rendering Sophia an afterthought in most episodes.
They made a serious attempt to lure Bea Arthur back for its second season, offering to cut the number of episodes down and work around her schedule, but she refused (she did make a guest appearance in the two parter 'Seems Like Old Times').

Why Golden Palace might not be annoying:

It showcased the comedic talents of a pre-Avengers Don Cheadle.
It had guest appearances by an up-and-coming Jack Black (as a cab driver) and Bill Engvall (as Blanche's son).
A touching episode revealed that Blanche had a brother with special needs whom she was ashamed of but learns to publicly accept.
Its writers upgraded Rose from a simpleton, making her considerably smarter and stronger (she even hits Dorothy with a newspaper!).
It aired a topical episode that saw Roland confront Blanche over her love of displaying the Confederate Flag.
A clip from the episode went viral in the wake of the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests.
CBS initially renewed it for a second season, but changed their minds and cancelled it at the last minute.
To die-hard fans of the original show, its like discovering 24 lost episodes of The Golden Girls.
