Why he might be annoying:

He was married to Angela Lansbury for under a year (1945-46), walking out and leaving a note reading, ‘Sorry, I can’t go on.’
Their fifteen-year age difference and his homosexuality contributed to the brevity of their marriage.
His attempt at a post-World War II comeback in Hollywood fizzled out after one film, ‘Bungalow 13.’ (1948)
His acting tended to attract ‘damning with faint praise’ remarks, such as co-star Henry Fonda calling him ‘always dependable.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He went to work delivering newspapers to help support the family after his father died in the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic.
He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.
He and Lansbury remained friends after their divorce.
He had artistic careers before and after his acting career: before, he was known for creating masks of Hollywood stars like Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo and Tallulah Bankhead; after, he was a successful potter and ceramicist.
