He is directly responsible for scaring the living crap out of millions of children across the world (and not a few adults) with his weird, disturbing, freaked-out illustrations.
He looks like Steve Buscemi.
Asked about his influences, he replied: 'My imagination and lots of paper and pencils!' (suuuuure).
