    He had unorthodox pitching mechanics, which saw him use a jerky windup motion.
    His unethical pitch motion was the cause of his career ending prematurely.
    His career year was remembered for the fact he posted an earned run average over 5.00, despite posting 15 wins (1996).
    He missed the entire 1999 season as a result of injuries.
    He attempted to make a comeback with the Colorado Rockies in 2000 spring training, but walked away from the team abruptly days later, without explaining his departure.

    He spent his entire playing career with the Rangers.
    He was the first pitcher in the history of the Rangers franchise to record 12+ wins in a season.
    He was a member of the Rangers team that won both the first division title and made the first playoff appearance in franchise history (1996).

    He, along with Ken Hill were the first pitching tandem in over 80 years to record consecutive one-hit games.
