Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

His nickname ‘Jack the Ripper’ was a play on that of the serial killer’s.
He whined frequently about playing in cold windy conditions at Candlestick Park.
He angered the Giants front office and his manager, Frank Robinson by exaggerating his injury recovery time.
His fielding skills as a first baseman were considered poor by baseball pundits.
This was evident when his throw to Todd Worrell during Game 6 of the 1985 World Series set the stage for Don Denkinger’s infamous botched call that cost the Cardinals the pennant.
His tenure with the Cardinals was overshadowed by his feud with Ozzie Smith.
He requested a trade from the Yankees, due to the fact he couldn’t get along with Lou Piniella.
He publicly expressed his personal disdain for Tony Gwynn during his tenure with the Padres, which led to tension between the two men during his tenure with the team.
He fired parting shots at Gwynn, Greg Riddoch and the Padres fan base, going as far as calling Riddoch a snake and both Gwynn and the fans stupid.
He filed for bankruptcy after it was revealed he was in massive debt due to his hobby of collecting luxury cars.
He admitted he purchased the majority of his luxury cars out of boredom, which led to him being unable to keep up on his payments.
As a sports talk show host, he made unsubstantiated claims that Albert Pujols was using PED’s was a member of the Cardinals (2013).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was considered one of the National League’s intimidating hitters during his prime years.
He was the first recipient of the Willie Mac Award (1980).
He voluntarily made the switch to first base with the Cardinals in order to reduce the wear and tear on his body.
He posted his best statistical numbers, despite a feud with Ozzie and battling through injuries to guide the Cardinals to their second World Series appearance in three years (1987).
He wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, even if it got him in deep shit with teammates and media personalities alike.
He was able to get back on his feet after his highly publicized bankruptcy filing.
