Chess Champ

The Resume

    (December 11, 1969- )
    Born in Madras, India
    World chess champion (2000-02, 2007-13)
    First grandmaster from India (1988)

Why he might be annoying:

His first reign as world chess champion is disputed, since FIDE and Gary Kasparov's Classical World Championship were granting rival titles.
He finds it difficult to sleep after a bad game.
He dismissed his nickname 'the Tiger of Madras' as 'an invention by some journalist who probably could not think of any other Indian animal.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He is one of the best liked players in chess, largely because he refrains from trying to psych out opponents and concentrates on the game.
One of his favorite ways to relax during tournaments is 'to watch old Hitchcock films in order to give my brain a rest.'
He was the first recipient of India's top sporting honor, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (1992).
He received the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award, becoming the first sportsperson to be so honored (2007).
