    Raised in Berkshire, England
    Best known for ‘The Wind in the Willows (1908)’
    Wrote ‘The Golden Age (1895)’ and ‘Dream Days (1898)’

Why he might be annoying:

    He worked at a bank, and his employees didn’t like him.
    At the time, publishers thought a book about talking animals was a ridiculous idea.
    He never wrote another book after ‘The Wind in the Willows,’ even though he lived another 25 years.
    He had issues about sex.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His mother died when he was five.
    His father was a drunk, so he had to be raised by his grandmother.
    He couldn’t afford to go to college.
    His only son killed himself by jumping in front of a train.
    His books have often been censored, dumbed down, or otherwise bastardized.
    ‘The Wind in the Willows’ is a classic of children’s literature.
    Teddy Roosevelt was a huge fan.
