Baseball Player

The Resume

    (August 15, 1935- )
    Born in Middletown, Connecticut
    Major League baseball pitcher
Played for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (1954-1960, 1966) and Cincinnati Reds (1961-66)
First Little League player to make the major leagues
One of the major league's first 'bonus baby' signees
    National League All-Star, 1961
Named to the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2008

Why he might be annoying:

He is confused with the Joey Jay who appeared on 'RuPaul's Drag Race'.
According to Little League rules, he was too big to pitch as a child, so he played first base.
He was a high school phenom, so the Milwaukee Braves signed him as a 'bonus baby', which meant that he had to stay on the Braves' roster for two years. As a result he took a roster spot away from a more deserving (and far less paid) player for that time.
After the two years were up, the Braves immediately sent him to the minors.
He rarely pitched because the Braves' pitching staff was one of the best in the majors, and his opportunities were rare.
The Braves traded him because they felt that their staff didn't need him, and that he had lost his skills sitting the bench.
He had no friends on the Braves' team because they were jealous of his signing bonus.
He hated conditioning, and his managers with the Braves thought he was lazy, which made his situation even worse.

Why he might not be annoying:

Going to the Reds was a blessing, because their staff desperately needed a starter, and he was successful beyond all predictions.
He led the National League in wins and in shutouts, and made the NL All-Star team.
He pitched the Reds to their first World Series in twenty-one years.
In the 1961 World Series, the Reds had to face the New York Yankees, one of most dominant teams of all time--and he beat them in Game Two, throwing a complete game.
He won twenty games again in 1962, but arm troubles plagued him after that, and he retired in 1966.
He is the patron saint of ballplayers who think they just need to try another team to be a success.
