Why he might be annoying:

He has been married three times, divorced twice.
He nepotistically cast his then-wife, Theresa Russell, in most of his 80s films.
Many of his movies are confusing until key information is revealed in the final scene.
While making 'Bad Timing,' he filmed for 24 hours without a break, causing much of the crew and star Art Garfunkel to threaten to walk out.
He said, 'I don't look back on any film I've done with fondness and pride.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked his way up from tea boy and gofer at a studio to directing.
Several of his films have a cult following.
He influenced Steven Soderbergh, Todd Haynes and Christopher Nolan.
He incorporates a lot of improvisation into his films, commenting 'If one does too much planning, you're not seeing the gold beneath your feet.'
In a poll of film industry professionals by 'Time Out,' 'Don't Look Back' was named the best British film of all time (2011).
