Why they might be annoying:

Before becoming the Motels, they called themselves Warfield Foxes and Angels of Mercy.
More than 35 people have been members of the band, with Davis the only constant.
Their original version of 'All Four One' was rejected by Capitol Records for being 'too weird' and 'not commercial enough.'
On the version of 'All Four One' that Capitol released (and which became their most commercially successful album), the band members other than Davis were replaced by session musicians.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their performance at the Radio Free Hollywood Show (1976) was credited with opening the door for unsigned bands to play at L.A. clubs.
Early in their careers, they shared a rehearsal space with the GoGos at the Masque in Hollywood.
Before breaking in the US, they had hits in France and Australia.
Their mis-80s lineup got back together for VH-1's 'Bands Reunited' (2004).
