Why he might be annoying:

    He was virtually unknown by casual sports fans, until his son was drafted first overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
    He struggled to maintain a consistent batting average in his career.
    He spent his entire major league career as a backup.
    He is one of three players in major league history to record six passed balls in a single game (May 12, 1996).
    He was sent to the minors following that game, never playing another game in the majors.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He left the University of California–Berkeley among the top 10 leaders in career home runs.
    He was able to advance through the Mariners system as a result of his solid defensive game, despite struggling with his batting average.
    He got the opportunity to reach the majors, following his trade to Montréal.
    He participated in an independent league all-star game, in which he came off the bench as the last eligible player, and hit a pinch hit game-winning double (1997).
    He pursued a career in firefighting following the end of his playing career.
