The Resume

    (October 18, 1897-May 5, 1980)
Co-creator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality inventory, with mother Katharine Cook Briggs
    Psychological theorist
    Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science
Author of ‘Murder Yet to Come’ (1929)

Why she might be annoying:

Most people in her field would have struggled to get funding or outside support. She already had both in spades.
Her daughter died after minor surgery, in her later 40s (1974).
    She was quite a perfectionist.

Why she might not be annoying:

She came by her home-schooling honestly — her mother was educated this way, too (but entered college at 14).
Initially disinterested in working in health care, she saw hospitals as an excellent testing ground for her theories.
Going into World War II, she noticed that many jobs were taken simply out of a patriotic duty rather than on the basis of the workers’ internal gifts.
Her one and only work of fiction – based on all 16 possible type combinations in the MBTI – was the year’s National Detective Murder Mystery Contest winner.
Computer technology, much different in her time than in ours, was not instrumental in her studies.
Her relationship with a law student she met in college would last some six decades.
‘I dream that long after I’m gone, my work will go on helping people.’ To that end, one document found after her death the following year contained a brief overview of the six tenets of her philosophy (titled ‘What Is to Be Desired?’).
