Why he might be annoying:

    He publicly expressed his disdain towards both Reggie Jackson and the New York Yankees growing up.
    Despite being drafted by the Twins with a top 10 pick, he was traded to Cleveland a year later in a deal that sent Bert Blyleven to the team (1985).
    He played on five different teams during his career.
    His defensive skills were below average.
    He made 129 errors in his first three minor league seasons.
    His offensive strong suit was bunting the ball.
    Despite being a mainstay in the Pirates infield, he was traded to the Royals for virtually nothing in a salary dump move.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was one of the few players during the 1990's to wear eyeglasses on the field at a time when players were moving to contact lenses.
    He hit his first home run on the first pitch off of Bert Blyleven in his first major league game (April 1986).
    He was able to excel defensively by studying the hitters and knowing where to position himself defensively.
    He was considered an anchor in the Pirates middle infield during the team's run of success during the early 1990's.
    He was a member of the inaugural Diamondbacks roster (1998).
    He scored the winning run on Luis Gonzalez's bloop single off Mariano Rivera in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.
    He has a baseball field named after him in the Phoenix area.
    He broke Ozzie Smith's record of 13 consecutive Gold Glove Awards, making him the first Pirate shortstop since Gene Alley to earn the award in the process (1993).
