Her middle name was Bruce.
She said, ‘Even when I was in college, I’m afraid my aim was – if it doesn’t sound too ridiculous – my aim was to be a New York Jewish intellectual.’
In college, she briefly joined the Communist Party.
During and after her marriage, she went on ‘dates’ with gay men.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her prose style was praised by Joan Didion, Susan Sontag and Philip Roth.
She was one of the few people who could handle Lowell during his manic phases.
After Lowell left her for Caroline Blackwood, he incorporated passages from her letters pleading for his return into his poems verbatim, without her permission.
She was described as handling the betrayal ‘with considerable dignity and minimal self-pity.’
