Why he might be annoying:

    His nickname was 'Apple Cheeks.'
    He played on five of the NHL's Original Six teams.
    He was traded by the Red Wings, despite a solid performance in the Stanley Cup playoffs that year (1950).
    He refused to report to the Black Hawks after being acquired by the team for the second time (1956).
    He spent the later stages of his career floating around the minor leagues.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He made his NHL debut at the age of 17 as a one-game emergency replacement for the Rangers (1943).
    He guided the Red Wings to a Stanley Cup championship in his final season with the team (1950).
    He is credited with making the pocket play at shin level in the goalie pad to deflect the puck onto the ice surface rather then deflect off an opponent.
    He recorded 13 shutouts in a single season, which was an NHL record (1953-54; since broken).
    In honor of his contributions to hockey and sport in his hometown of Owen Sound, the city posthumously named their community center in his honor.
