Author

The Resume

    (June 12, 1827-July 7, 1901)
    Born in Hirzel, Switzerland
    Birth name was Johanna Heusser
Wrote the children’s novel ‘Heidi’ (1881)

Why she might be annoying:

She suffered depression while pregnant with her son and for years after giving birth.
She apparently ‘borrowed’ much of the plot for ‘Heidi’ from an 1830 story, ‘Adelaide, the Girl from the Alps.’
Four sequels to ‘Heidi’ that she had not authorized were written by her French translator after her death.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her husband and her son died in the same year (1884).
’Heidi’ is the most popular work of Swiss literature, having been translated into over 50 languages.
Unlike most 19th-century authors who treated children as small, imperfect adults, she depicted children with their own worldview and needs that differed widely from those of adults.
