The Resume

    (January 22, 1937- )
    Born in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department
Author of numerous books including 'The New Centurions,' 'The Blue Knight' and 'The Onion Field,' many of which have been made into movies, TV movies, TV series and miniseries

Why he might be annoying:

He quit the LAPD after 14 years because he didn't like being recognized by fans while on the job.
His early books were gritty, realistic character studies of regular policemen, but his later books have been run-of-the-mill detective novels.
He uses the same stock characters in many of his books, i.e. the big tough street cop, the little guy who's unsure of himself and the frustrated lady cop.
    His middle name is Aloysius.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first writer to concentrate on the day-to-day life of policemen.
His books have been very popular among real cops.
His nonfiction novel 'The Onion Field' has been compared favorably to 'In Cold Blood' by Truman Capote.
