Why he might be annoying:

He got started racing at a late age and did not even learn to drive until he was 24.
He only became leader of Team Lotus after teammates Jim Clark and Mike Spence died in accidents (1968).
He and five members of his racing team died when the Piper Aztec he was piloting crashed into a London golf course.
He had no insurance and lawsuits from relatives of the other victims wiped out his estate.

Why he might not be annoying:

He came back from a crash at Watkins Glen, New York, in which he broke both legs (1969).
His wins at Indianapolis, Monaco and Le Mans made him the first driver to win the Triple Crown of Motorsports.
He was a member of the London Rowing Club and adopted their colors (blue with white oar-shaped tabs) for his racing helmet.
His son Damon also became a Formula One world champion (1996), making them the first father-son pair to win the title.
