Why he might be annoying:

He went prematurely grey at age 18.
For much of his early career, he was typecast as Indians, and played Cochise in three movies.
He complained about being a sex symbol, saying of one role, 'I thought that for once I could keep my shirt on and not have to shave my chest.'
Esther Williams broke off her engagement to him after discovering he was a cross-dresser, cracking, 'Jeff, you're too big for polka dots.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He also had a successful singing career and owned a music publishing company.
When Sammy Davis, Jr., lost one eye in an auto accident and was in danger of losing the other, he offered to donate one of his own eyes to Davis.
He died as a result of medical malpractice while undergoing surgery for a slipped disc.
