Astrologer

The Resume

    (August 5, 1926-January 2, 2003)
    Birth name was Sidney Kimmelman
Born a Leo (with the Sun, Mercury and Neptune all in Leo)
Has written several books for each astrological sign
Authored the autobiography 'Answer in the Sky...Almost: Confessions of an Astrologer' (1995)
Syndicated column appears in over 200 newspapers
Died of pneumonia complications brought on by a heart attack at age 76

Why he might be annoying:

He took his surname based on the Victor Mature movie 'Shanghai Gesture' from a character named Dr. Omar.
He added the extra 'r' to the name for some dubious numerological formula rhetoric.
Though he never claimed to be 'psychic,' he did predict the future for people based on Sun signs.
He threw lavish dinner parties where women flocked to him, but dismissed it with the statement, 'It's the astrology they're in love with, not me.'
He was married to former model and cruise ship director Jeraldine Saunders for less than a year in 1966.
He gave readings to Governor of California Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy and convinced Reagan to postpone his state inauguration by 9 minutes based on astrology charts.
He convinced Reagan to sign a bill exempting Sacramento licensed astrologers from the category of fortune tellers, allowing them to receive compensation for their trade (August 30, 1974).
His chosen profession is sketchy at best and borderline fraud.
He stated in his first interview in more than a decade, shortly before he died, that 'this year, with Jupiter in the fifth house,' he would be 'poised for success through publicity.' (obits are publicity - don't know about the success part)

Why he might not be annoying:

He started earning a living as a magician at age 15.
He sold personalized Hollywood star astrology charts to magazines for $1 a pop (his first was Edward G. Robinson).
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was shipped to Okinawa during World War II.
He started a weekly Armed Forces Radio program, predicting the outcomes of pro boxing matches and horse races.
He was the Army's first and only 'officially' recognized astrologer.
He remained good friends with his wife after the divorce.
His celebrity clientele included Angie Dickinson, Jayne Mansfield, Jennifer Jones, Mae West, Aldous Huxley and Henry Miller.
    He developed multiple sclerosis (1971).
In the early '80s the disease crippled him to the point he became paralyzed from the neck down.
By the late '80s he completely lost his sight. Bet he didn't see that coming.
He continued to dictate what should go in his columns based on data given him.
Friends, assistants and his ex-wife were at his bedside when he died.
