He was a journeyman player.
He spent the majority of his career playing on losing teams.
He transferred from Texas Christian to San Joaquin Delta College before establishing himself at University of California-Irvine.
He was frequently passed over for numerous head coaching vacancies prior to landing the Thunder's head coaching job.
He was primarily used as a bench player during his playing career.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a member of the first Houston Rockets championship team (1994).
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the University of California-Irvine (2001).
Despite the Thunder's atrocious 1-12 start, he rallied the team to a 22-47 record down the stretch to earn the head coaching job on a permanent basis.
He guided the Thunder to a 50+ win season and a near upset of the Lakers in his first full season as head coach.
He is the first coach in the history of the Supersonics/Thunder franchise to win the Coach of the Year award.
