The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

One of his nicknames was 'Sarge.'
He played in the 1950 NBA Finals and lost to Minneapolis Lakers in 6 games in his only championship appearance as a full-time player.
The Hawks lost in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics in his first season taking over as a player-coach.
His Warriors team went into a disaster following its loss from its first NBA Finals appearance in its second season in San Francisco.
His coaching career ended on a sour note as he coached the Denver Rockets to a 47-loss season.
He has been fired as an NBA head coach and an ABA head coach.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in World War II as a Marine.
He was captain of the USC basketball team (1948).
He successfully converted laughing stock teams into contenders.
He was able to lead his Hawks team to bounce back from its 1957 defeat to beat the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals in his first full season as a head coach.
He coached the 76ers to an outstanding 68-win season with a victory in the 1967 NBA Finals over his former Warriors team, which broke the Celtics' eight title streak.
That championship victory also resulted him being the first NBA head coach to win a championship with two teams before Phil Jackson accomplished that feat.
He holds the distinction of being the only man to coach a team to win an NBA Championship and an ABA Championship.
