Why he might be annoying:

Their original drummer, Angus MacLise, who didn't play a gig with them, quit because he said that accepting money for art is selling out.
Nico was a member of the band for less than a year and when she left to go on a solo career, their management with Andy Warhol slowly faded away.
Lou Reed and John Cale, who were once best friends and shared the same imaginative vision, soon bickered and got into argument frequently.
    John left the band.
Even after the breakup, a reunion tour was planned but before it started, Lou Reed and John Cale got into another argument and it was cancelled.
After Lou Reed left the band in 1970, they decided to continue on but with critical disaster, which caused all band members to finally quit.

Why he might not be annoying:

They've influenced Sonic Youth, R.E.M., Talking Heads, The Strokes, Joy Division, Nirvana and other rock icons like David Bowie, Iggy Pop Brian Eno and Patti Smith.
They made a major impact in the history of punk rock.
Lou Reed is considered to be one of the most real, innovative and creative songwriters of all time.
After they broke up, the band's history and past recordings became more popular and influential.
They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
