    Birth name was Lawrence Patrick David Gillick
    General manager of the Toronto Blue Jays (1978-94), Baltimore Orioles (1996-97), Seattle Mariners (2000-03), and Philadelphia Phillies (2006-08)
    Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame (2011)

Why he might be annoying:

    After graduating high school, he hitchhiked to Alberta to play semi-pro ball with the Vulcan Elks.
    Despite his college success, he never made it to the Major League.
    He was part of a group that made an unsuccessful bid to buy the Angels from Gene Autry.
    According to his wife, he is a lousy driver: 'I usually close my eyes so I don't have to watch what's happening.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is left handed.
    He came from a broken home and was raised by his grandparents.
    He and his wife Doris have been married for over 50 years.
    He was a pitcher on the USC team that won the College World Series (1958).
    He had a photographic memory, and was nicknamed Wolley Segap (Yellow Pages backwards) for his ability to memorize phone books.
    He was only the fourth general manager enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
    Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said, 'Pat Gillick is basically the architect of all architects. He wins wherever he goes, under just about every condition.'
