Rests on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean at 47 9'S 126 43'W which places it near the farthest spot on earth from other land
Stories about it may have many diverse sources including; the Bible, the legend of Atlantis and the writings of Lord Dunsany

Why R'lyeh might be annoying:

It's described as weird, loathsome, designed using non-Euclidean geometry and filled with really ugly giant statues and bas-reliefs.
Being at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean makes it hard to visit.
When it rises from the ocean, Cthulhu will rise and things are going to get really, really bad.

Why R'lyeh might not be annoying:

As long as it stays where it is, we are safe from Cthulhu and his minions.
It can be located on Google Maps.
Some items have been retrieved from it over the centuries to let us know a little bit about it, its history, and its inhabitants.
It has no tourists traps and has never been featured on Wild On! with Brooke Burke.
It's supposed be huge! Possibly continent-sized, just the tip of its top is too big to explore on foot and may be part of the continent of Antarctica.
