Why Selma, Alabama might be annoying:

It has long been the center of racial conflict from the infamous 'Bloody Sunday' march and voting rights controversies in the sixties to the present day.
In the early nineties, blacks angered over the firing of a corrupt black school superintendent led gangs attacking white students on school grounds, leading whites to abandon city schools for Dallas County and private schools.
Despite being majority black for its entire history, it did not have a black mayor until the nineties.
It's unemployment rates are always higher than state and national averages often 50 to 100% higher.
Not surprisingly, it's one of the poorer cities in Alabama, which is not a rich state.

Why Selma, Alabama might not be annoying:

It's a popular tourist destination, particularly the Civil Rights museum and the re-enactment of the Battle of Selma every spring.
The local hunting and fishing is excellent.
It's a very good area for farming.
Although the city schools suck, the county and private schools are quite good and it is the location of Selma University and a branch of Concordia University and the local community college, Wallace Community College Selma has had its drafting and nursing programs nationally ranked.
The people, individually are wonderfully friendly, polite, and helpful in the best very best tradition of Southern hospitality.
During the Civil War, invading Yankee forces burned it to the ground with only a couple of weeks left in the war.
The people are very devout, according to the 1990 census Selma and surrounding Dallas County has a church for approximately every 100 residents.
An AmIAnnoying profiler is from there.
